Who We Are
Our vision for outreach
Our vision for evangelism
On Saturday 22nd June 2013 16 of the congregation took part in a church conference in Dumfries Free Church when we reflected on how best to develop our outreach to the community. There was a creative morning of sharing ideas which were all recorded. These ideas were then discussed by the elders and a summary was prepared with a number of quantifiable goals. This was circulated to the congregation on Sunday 28th July. We aim to review these in 12 months time.
The gist: The best way to share the gospel is to get to know more people through our ordinary contacts at work, in our leisure and in our social circles and be ready to support one another in building these relationships with a view to sharing the gospel.
We agreed the following sentence which expresses this aim concisely
“Creating an open door to our church family through sharing the Bible and loving our neighbours”
The following action points arose from the conference and the elders' discussions that followed. They will be reviewed in 12 months’ time.
Christianity Explored: Promote it to the parents of holiday club children and mother and toddler group aiming to have another course in November/December.
Loving our neighbour:
a) Aim to establish a Jobs Club in association with Christians Against Poverty
b) Organise our food store so that we have ready made “food packs” for one for those who are in need. Look into possibility of referring to a food bank.
c) Link with a recovery group such as Stouros in order to refer people with addiction problems.
d) Continue with the MacMillan Cancer Care Coffee Morning
e) Approach the wardens at James Dempsey Gardens to offer either to take occasional services and/or take residents to Coffee Club
Back to Church Sunday: engage with this national event using the available materials.
Leaflet Distribution: Distribute leaflets 3 times in the year (possibly for Back to church Sunday, to advertise Jobs Club and at Easter) and review effectiveness.
In general encourage all of us to be involved with non-church people and to be intentional in seeking to share the gospel.
Prepare cards/book marks with our prayer focus:
That the Lord might grant us to see the worshipping congregation increase to 40 adults, to become net financial contributors to the denomination’s work; to establish a jobs club..
